In the late 70s, came across a guitar tone called “brown sound”, what’s a brown sound? Describe in a simple way: The perfect electric guitar tone. In that era, most of the guitar sounds were created through overdriven the tube amps, but somehow were kind of raggedy and rough, the brown sound was something else entirely, it was liquid, organic and warm. Therefore,The brown sound re-defined the sound of hard rock guitar since then. Until today, it’s still the sound that guitarists pursue.

在70年代末期，出現了一種名為 Brown Sound 的電吉他音色，而 Brown Sound 指的是什麼呢？簡單來說，便是當時「完美電吉他音色」的代名詞。 在那只有真空管音箱的年代，普遍的電吉他音色大多都是將音箱放大到失真以達到破音的效果，但在這種簡單粗暴的操作下所得到的音色，難免會有些粗糙感。然而，由 EVH 所定義的 Brown Sound卻有所不同，在高增益的設置下，不僅流暢精緻，且同樣保有音箱的原始個性，溫暖且厚實。從此 Brown Sound 對於搖滾吉他的音色也有了新的定義，至今依然是吉他手們追求的音色指標。
